Virtual Engagement Session - Phase 1 - Resilience of the Climate Emergency Response Plan
This consultation provided:
- An overview of the recently completed climate risk model of Whitby
- An opportunity to provide input on appropriate adaptation actions that will help reduce the climate risks.
This session is led by the Town of Whitby’s consultant team Sustainable Solutions Group, and I See Change.
Climate Resilience Plan Public Survey
From April 8 to April 29, residents were able to complete the survey to share their climate change concerns and identify the actions they felt would have the greatest impact.
Climate Resilience Plan - Public Consultation Round 2
As part of the Whitby community, residents were invited to join the second virtual session to help shape Phase 1 of the Master Plan -Climate Adaptation. The session offered an opportunity to share input on adaptation actions to reduce climate risk and included a demonstration of how these actions would be modeled for effectiveness. This session was led by the Town’s consultant team, Sustainable Solutions Group and I See Change.
Public Review of Draft of Climate Emergency Response Plan Phase 1 - Resilience
Residents were invited to provide feedback on the draft Climate Emergency Response Plan – Phase 1: Resilience, which included an Executive Summary and an Implementation Plan.
Join ‘I See Change’ to help us track Climate Change
Residents were invited to join the ‘I See Change’ initiative to help track local climate impacts by sharing photos, stories, and observations through the ISeeChange tool. Contributions supported citizen-science data used to inform the Climate Change Plan.
Council Approval of Climate Emergency Response Plan Phase 1 - Resilience
On September 26, 2022, Council Approved Phase 1 - Resilience of the Climate Emergency Response Plan.
Council Approval of Community Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets
In an Interim Report to Council on Phase 2 of the Climate Emergency Response Plan the following the following short, medium, and long-term targets to reduce community greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were approved:
• 20 percent reduction by 2025, below 2019 levels
• 40 percent reduction by 2030, below 2019 levels
• 100 percent reduction by 2045, below 2019 levels
Climate Mitigation Plan Survey
From April 18 to May 7, residents were able to complete the survey to share which actions they felt would have the greatest impact on reducing community emissions.
Climate Emergency Preparedness Survey
From October 9, 2023 through October 27, 2023 residents were able to participate in a survey regarding emergency preparedness. Feedback gathered will help the Town develop a strategy to better prepare the community for the impacts of extreme weather.
