Starting in 2022 the Town of Whitby will begin renovations on the Whitby Civic Recreation Complex (CRC) change rooms to help meet both the immediate and future recreational needs of visitors to the facility.

The goal: to create more modern, efficient and accessible change room spaces. In particular, new family/inclusive change rooms will be created to improve access to aquatics programming for families with young children, residents who are 55+, and individuals with disabilities. The Men’s and Women’s change rooms will also be renovated.

Upgrades to be completed during the renovation include:

  • a new universal/family change room with 22 change stalls (up from 3), 100 lockers (up from 28), 12 baby change tables (up from 1), 19 showers (up from 3) and 4 washrooms (up from 2);
  • wider hallways will make it easier for families with strollers or residents in wheelchairs to move throughout the universal/family change room;
  • an upper-level universal washroom to better serve residents with disabilities;
  • renovations to the existing women’s public changeroom, men’s public changerooms and aquatics staff changerooms;
  • new multi-purpose programming space for all age groups to enjoy: and,
  • safety equipment upgrades including a new fire alarm, expanded pool audio system, pool lighting and improved ventilation systems.

Get Involved

Before the work begins, you’re invited to review and comment on a design concept for the change rooms to help to inform the final design. Have your say now through Monday, November 1 at 4:30 p.m.

Why It Matters

The Town is committed to providing an inclusive environment where all residents, visitors and employees have equal access to programs, services, facilities and amenities. In particular, change rooms are being renovated to better accommodate families with children, residents who are 55 +, and persons with disabilities.

What’s Next

Feedback collected will help to inform the final recommended change rooms design, expected to be brought forward for Council approval later this year. During the renovation, which is expected to start in 2022, the Men’s and Women’s change rooms will be closed to the public. The renovation is expected to be complete in late 2022.

The Health Club Members' change rooms and fitness programs remain open during this time.

Project Funding

This project has been made possible by a more than $1.9 million grant from the Government of Canada’s Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream (CCRIS) of the Investing in Canada plan; over $1.6 million grant from the Province of Ontario; and a $1.3 investment from the Town of Whitby.
