Civic Community Garden

Civic Community Garden Coming June 2025

Do you love gardening? Are you passionate about local food and building a stronger community?

The Civic Community Garden launching in June 2025 will be beside the Whitby Civic Recreation Complex at 555 Rossland Road East. This resident-led initiative will offer dedicated growing space for fresh, healthy food right in the heart of our community.

The garden will feature rectangle-shaped beds that will be planted, maintained, and harvested by community members. The goal is to improve access to nutritious food, support local food production, and help address food insecurity.

The space will also host educational programs and youth-focused planting events, making it a place to learn, grow, and connect.

Have Your Say!

Residents were invited to complete a survey and share their feedback on the proposed plan and community garden design elements which closed on March 13, 2024.

Community Garden Concept

In summer 2023 a group of local residents called Mannahelp submitted a community garden application to the Town's Community Services Department Park Development Division to build a community garden at the Civic Recreation Complex, located at 555 Rossland Rd East.

The proposed community garden site plan and a presentation prepared by Mannahelp, the Community Garden Group, can be viewed under the 'Documents' heading on the right-hand side of this page.

Anticipated Construction Timeline

The garden construction could proceed assuming the feedback garnered from this engagement supports the proposed community garden and all other necessary approvals are secured.
