Do you love to garden? Are you interested in seeing more food production in your local community? We want to hear your thoughts about a new community garden, proposed to be built beside the Whitby Civic Recreation Complex, located at 555 Rossland Road East.
The rectangle-shaped garden beds would be planted, maintained, and harvested cooperatively, to provide residents access to fresh and healthy food and help address food insecurity in the community. They would also be used for education and youth-focused planting events.
Have Your Say!
Complete a survey and share your feedback on the proposed plan and community garden design elements now through Wednesday, March 13.
Community Garden Concept
In summer 2023 a group of local residents called Mannahelp submitted a community garden application to the Town's Community Services Department Park Development Division to build a community garden at the Civic Recreation Complex, located at 555 Rossland Rd East.
The proposed community garden site plan and a presentation prepared by Mannahelp, the Community Garden Group, can be viewed under the 'Documents' heading on the right-hand side of this page.
Anticipated Construction Timeline
The garden construction could proceed assuming the feedback garnered from this engagement supports the proposed community garden and all other necessary approvals are secured.
Next Steps
Feedback collected will help inform Whitby Town Council as they decide on the Community Garden.
