Update: The 2022 – 2025 Special Events Strategy was approved by Council on March 9, 2022. The final Special Events Strategy includes a vision, five key strategic priorities and a total of 38 actions for implementation over the next four years. The list of actions is a prioritized starting point based on community input and research. New actions may emerge and will need to be assessed against the priorities of the plan on an annual basis.

The final Special Events Strategy is intended to guide the municipality and is built on an understanding of collaboration and connection.

Events are an important part of what makes Whitby a great place to live, work and play. They contribute to our quality of life and give residents opportunities to experience culture, arts and entertainment. They are also an important contributor to Whitby's local economy.

That's why the Town is creating its first strategy for special events: to support the celebration of our town's character and identity, keep our community connected and contribute to Whitby's local economy.

Get Involved

While many of the 200+ in-person events held annually in Whitby were put on hold during the pandemic, we are looking towards the future and want your help in reimaging what Whitby events can be.

We want to know:

  • what makes people attend and enjoy events,
  • what barriers to attending events may exist (besides current pandemic-related restrictions), and
  • how you believe the Town can help ensure that events continue to be part of our vibrant and connected culture.

Share your thoughts: take a short survey by Monday, November 8 at 4:30 p.m. to have your say.

Next Steps

Feedback collected will help to inform the finalization of Whitby's draft Special Events Strategy planned to be brought forward for Council approval by the end of this year.
