Traffic Calming to Support Safe Roads
The Town of Whitby is committed to safe neighbourhoods across the community. As part of this commitment, each year, the Town of Whitby installs traffic calming measures on ten local streets as part of its Traffic Calming Program. These include infrastructure like roundabouts, speed humps, speed feedback signs, and raised crosswalks.

Use the Town’s new online mapping tool and place a pin on a map to help identify a road or intersection where you have a traffic-related concern and share why you think the location would benefit from a traffic calming measure.

Staff will consider the feedback collected, budget impacts, and location considerations to develop the list of the ten local streets where a traffic calming measure will be proposed next year. Additional Information – Road Watch
In addition to traffic calming measures, public education is a key part of the Town’s efforts to reduce speeding and create safer neighbourhoods. The Town partners with Durham Regional Police Service and residents to actively promote and administer the Road Watch Program, through which residents can easily report aggressive or unsafe driving to DRPS for follow-up.
The Town also meets and works collaboratively with its partners in the Region and in neighbouring municipalities on the Vision Zero initiative to create safer roads for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers across all of Durham.
