The Town of Whitby is continuing a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study to explore possible road modifications and improvements along Water Street (in south Whitby), from Brock Street South to South Blair Street.

The study is being undertaken to identify opportunities to:

  • enhance the corridor experience along the Whitby Waterfront;
  • accommodate future parking, active transportation, and travel demands within the area; and
  • address road alignment and drainage deficiencies.

These improvements are part of the Town's ongoing efforts and partnerships to transform the Whitby waterfront into a destination of choice for all to enjoy.

Community engagement is an important part of this project.

Community Open House (COH) Number 2 presented the Preliminary Preferred Solution for achieving the study’s objectives. The Project Team also presented various alternative road alignments and cross-section concepts to implement the Preferred Solution, and described how these design concepts would be evaluated.

Now, a third and final open house is scheduled to present and seek feedback on the Preliminary Preferred Road Alignment and Cross-section identified based on a technical evaluation. Get involved:

  • on January 10 (2024), drop in and learn more at the third and final Community Open House on this project being held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Heydenshore Pavilion (589 Water Street, Whitby). There will be a brief presentation at 5 p.m. to provide an update on the project and overview of findings to-date. The rest of the event will be “open house” style. View the full public notice for additional details. You can also view the display boards for more information.

Unable to attend the Community Open House? Review the proposed modifications and leave a comment below by February 10 (2024).

Next Steps

Feedback received will be considered in confirming the preferred improvements and finalizing the preliminary design for the road modifications.

Community feedback is also encouraged now and over the course of the study. If you have comments, require further information, or would like to be added to the project mailing list, please follow this project or use the comment box provided below.
