Keeping our neighbourhood clean after Canada Day
My neighbour Jerrica is a renter and I think renters get a bad rep. The general thought is that they don't care about the property nor the community but she is the exception. Jerrica and her family moved in and immediately became a great addition to our new subdivision of Queen's Common West. We organized a fireworks show by raising money from all the families in the neighbourhood. Since our neighbourhood is still under construction, there aren't much amenities yet. It is very much a construction zone. Despite us reminding neighbours to remove their own garbage, there was still some litter in the neighbourhood. I planned to go out with Jerrica the day after but I got a text from her saying the work was already done. Jerrica and her daughter Cheyenne went out the next morning and removed broken bottles and litter. Since that time, Jerrica and her family have been out helping when someone has lost a dog or needed their lawn mowed. It was Cheyenne's birthday recently and the whole neighbourhood stopped by to wish her a happy birthday and purchase lemonade from a stand she set up. Her plan is to donate 50% of the proceeds to charity. Jerrica also made plates of leftover cake and barbecue and delivered them to neighbours who requested it. Jerrica and her family are a welcome part of our tiny part of Whitby and we hope she is able to stay.
