  • A Great Neighbour

    by RudyB, 22 days ago

While our daughter was born as a nano preemie at 22wks and staying in the NICU in Toronto we stayed at the RMHC nearby. We had to leave our home in Whitby mostly unattended during the winter season. While the season is not over yet, our neighbour The Beers have gone above and beyond to clear our driveway, sidewalk, walkway and 4ft windrow. Beyond this they have helped bring packages into the home and kept an eye on our property even parking a car in our driveway. They have done more for us than we could ask or imagine. Without... • Labour Disruption 2023; A Champion

by Butterflyna , over 1 year ago
I would like to nominate a dear man who has excelled in being a community champion for Whitby. During the labor disruption and all the garbages were removed from the parks, most pet owners, when walking their dogs had nowhere to leave droppings. Most people were leaving their bags of droppings on the ground where the garbage cans used to be. We are in an apartment complex that has a park across the street. I noticed on one particular day this man was walking back from the park with a shovel in his hand. Low and behold this man had... Continue reading

  • It takes a village

by Natalie, about 3 years ago

Despite the amount of extra effort a snowstorm brings, it warms my heart to see neighbours coming together. I’d like to nominate my neighbor Greg as someone in the community that goes above and beyond. He is one of those kind souls that always has helping others on his mind. Each day he selflessly lends a hand to neighbours on each side of his house as well as to us across the street. Whether it’s help shovelling, brushing snow off our cars in the morning or bringing our empty blue boxes up to our house, Greg is a neighbor that... Continue reading

  • The Mr. Plow of James Govan

by Refrigeration_Rob, about 3 years ago
My neighbour Bryon Clark has been removing snow for myself and everyone within a 8 home radius. He has been using his snowthrower to remove snow on his neighbour’s driveway and the sidewalks. He’s been doing this for a couple years now. If he’s at work, he allows me use of his machine and I follow his direction and do our neighbours homes on his behalf. He resides at 43.

  • Snow Angel of Schilling Court

by Rosie & Jamie, about 3 years ago
Joel is a neighbour & has cleared snow on the court over the years. Yesterday's snow fall was a whopper (January 17th, 2022). One of the snow contractors really botched up our street. The contractor pushed all the snow from the entry of our court into the circle & this resulted in 10 driveways being completely blocked & their cars could not exit their driveways nor could any emergency vehicles attend if the need arose. After working a 24 hour shift, Joel came home & worked to clear driveways & pathways for 6 straight hours using both a shovel &amp... Continue reading

  • Most wonderful neighbour

by Rosemarie, about 3 years ago
We live in Whitby and we wish to nominate our neighbour Sam, two doors down - he is an absolute Snow Angel! As soon as the snow has fallen, our Angel comes over to shovel our driveway, together with our front steps and verandah. The latter to avoid a newspaper graveyard. He is such a gentle soul, always helping us out whenever needed. He is actually an all-year-round Angel.

We reside at 117 James Govan Drive, in Whitby and our Snow Angel lives at 113 James Govan Drive. Our Snow Angel's name is Sam Manna

  • Never ending Snow Clearing

by Sarah, about 3 years ago
The day of, and a few days later I see very little of my partner as he is outside clearing snow for neighbours. After he completes our property, I see him move to our neighbour to the south, then I reheat his coffee and he moves on to a little further south, then I provide him with a kleenex to wipe his nose and he moves on to the another neighbour across the street, then I provide him with dry clothes and out he goes again, and so on and so on. Yesterday, during the snowstorm, he was outside with... Continue reading

  • Martha, Stewart, Allen, (Kennett Dr)

by Sujeet B, about 3 years ago

I would like the share my deepest gratitude towards my neighbors Martha, Stewart and Allen who came to the rescue today. Our car battery died yesterday and we couldn't move the car last night. The car was buried in snow and the driveway was also full of snow since we are living away from the house due to renos. When I went to the house, I couldn't find the batteries to the snow blower in the garage or enter the house as the door was blocked by snow. Stewart was kind enough to lend his snow blower with gas. While... Continue reading
