Paul Rolland - Champion of Downtown Whitby

I want to first thank and recognize Paul Rolland for all of the amazing volunteer work he has undertaken in Downtown Whitby. He is a true Community Champion in so many ways. As a co-captain of the "Yellow Team" for Whitby Caremongers group, he has helped to orchestrate many initiatives such as connecting with property owners to put up colourful thank you signs throughout the community and organizing food bank drop off zones for residents in Downtown Whitby. He regularly brings cheer and smiles to anyone he meets and I was very fortunate to receive one of his amazing loafs... Continue reading

Alzheimer's Society Cares for the Community During COVID

The mission of the Alzheimer's Society of Durham Region is to improve the quality of life of people with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia and their care partners. They have pivoted their service delivery to continue delivering on this mission through the pandemic by providing their vital supports on a virtual platform and provided activity boxes for the vulnerable sector. Having a family member with Alzheimer's, I know the importance of these programs and services. Thank you for continuing to provide these essential services to our community during these challenging times.

    Bringing 1600 strangers together <3

by _adamaxx, over 3 years ago

If city of Whitby has a key to give, I'd nominate my neighbor Astrid in Queens Common new subdivision in a heartbeat. You don't hear these kind of stories everyday and I bet it's a rarity anywhere in Canada. We have about 400 or so households in this new subdivision and Astrid is instrumental in bringing these complete stranger together. Thanks to her, most neighbors know evey other neighbors in the area as a first name basis and mutually share anything from ideas to improve the community to safety/look out warning. Not to mention all the group deals we've negotiated... Continue reading

Keeping our neighbourhood clean after Canada Day

by Astrid with one S, over 3 years ago

My neighbour Jerrica is a renter and I think renters get a bad rep. The general thought is that they don't care about the property nor the community but she is the exception. Jerrica and her family moved in and immediately became a great addition to our new subdivision of Queen's Common West. We organized a fireworks show by raising money from all the families in the neighbourhood. Since our neighbourhood is still under construction, there aren't much amenities yet. It is very much a construction zone. Despite us reminding neighbours to remove their own garbage, there was still some... Continue reading

    College Downs Whitby Community Champion

by GraemeWilliamson, over 3 years ago

I live in the College Downs subdivision and one of my neighbours is a Whitby Community Champion. My neighbour is a Care Monger and organizes food drives and helps those in need. My neighbour is a long time educator and she took her education skills and painted rocks with all the upper case and lower case of each letter of the alphabet and 1-50 and spread these rocks throughout our subdivision as a scavenger hunt for those walking around our neighbourhood - it was great teaching tool for the young students that live in my area. My neighbour must have... Continue reading
