Roebuck Street Placemaking Project

Roebuck Street Public Art 2025

The Town of Whitby will be closing Roebuck Street from June to mid-September 2025 to enhance this outdoor space with the inclusion of planters, Muskoka Chairs, picnic tables, corn hole boards, and a foosball table creating an extension of Grass Park.

The Town of Whitby is excited to see three (3) new artworks painted by local artists to support placemaking in Downtown Brooklin. The theme this year was 'Going Green' (Eco-friendly) where three sets of concrete barriers were painted by local artists, helping liven up the space.

The Town of Whitby congratulates artist Chrrie @kingchrrie for their work on this year's Roebuck Street Road Mural!

Chrrie's whimsical artwork was selected as the design was a great fit for the space, thoughtful in presentation, the interactive elements were great for all ages and the 'Brooklin' community identity is evident throughout the mural. Chrrie has created such a wonderful design that was enjoyed by many all summer long ~ congratulations!

2023 Artists

Thank you to all artists who submitted a design for the 2023 Road Mural and Concrete Barrier project. The Town received 32 submissions and the Jury was overwhelmed by the local talent!

The winning designs are:

Road Mural Artist

Amanda Cannella

I wanted my mural to be a bright and vivid composition highlighting the history of Brooklin as well as community spaces that proved important in my formative years. The mural also incorporates some interactive elements to further encourage activity during community gatherings on Roebuck Street this Summer.

Concrete Barrier Artists

Carey Howard

My designs are about the land that connects us. Honouring the farmland with the sun rising over it and Lynde Creek that flows through all of Whitby. At the end of the day, we are ‘Glad You’re Here’!

Chrrie Carley

My piece for Brooklin's Placemaking Project focuses on highlighting the incredible small, local businesses that keep the city lively. Through my hardworking flower friends, I pay tribute to the amazing people that dedicate themselves to the time, work and wonderment that it takes to create true community.

Located in the heart of Brooklin, this mural is a symphony of multi-colour stripes and curves intertwining, representing the diversity, unity, and connections of our community. Hands fist bumping symbolize solidarity and support, while peace signs remind us of our shared desire for harmony. Waves and clasped hands serve as gentle reminders that we are stronger together, fostering a sense of connection and belonging for all who pass by.
